Great job yesterday at the Aylmer Assembly Hall!
Yesterday we had a nice crew of volunteers at our Assembly Hall in Aylmer, just across the bridge from Ottawa. We try to use locals to man the Cimex machines. Every time we add a few new persons into the mix, taking the time need to train them. As you know, no one works harder than someone who is a volunteer. The carpet in all five auditoriums and the huge lobby all got cleaned in about three hours. For many years now the halls have been cleaned using Encapsulation cleaning. At 23 years old, we think that it still looks great!

Breast Cancer
Awareness Month
Can physical activity reduce the risk of breast cancer?
Exercise boosts the immune system
and helps you to keep your weight in check. With as little as three hours of
exercise per week, or about 30 minutes a day, a woman can begin to lower her
risk of breast cancer. This doesn't require going to a gym either. Power
walking is more than sufficient.
Can a healthy diet help to prevent breast cancer?
A nutritious, low-fat diet (30 grams
or less) with plenty of fruits and green and orange vegetables can help reduce
the risk of developing breast cancer. A high-fat diet increases the risk
because fat triggers estrogen production that can fuel tumor growth.
Does smoking cause breast cancer?
Smoking is a confirmed risk factor
for many types of cancer. Recent research has confirmed that smoking is a
contributing risk factor for developing breast cancer. Additionally, second
hand smoke is also a risk factor. So if you're a smoker, help yourself in a
significant way and join a smoking cessation program to help you stop. The day
you stop smoking the healing can begin and each week in which you are
smoke-free, you give yourself increasing advantages for a healthier life.
Smoking also directly contributes to heart and other lung diseases, too.
How often should I go to my doctor for a check-up?
You
should have a physical every year which should include a clinical breast exam
and pelvic exam. If any unusual symptoms or changes in your breasts occur
before your scheduled visit, do not hesitate to see the doctor immediately.
Does a family history of breast cancer
put someone at higher risk?
Although
women who have a family history of breast cancer are in a higher risk group,
most women who have breast cancer have no family history. Statistically only
5-10% of individuals diagnosed with breast cancer have a family history of this
disease.

Halloween--An Ancient Night of Terror
It is the last night of October. By the
light of the moon, a small group of costumed figures move from house to house
stating their demands with dire threats. Guarding some doorsteps are grimacing
pumpkin heads glowing with burning candles—made from human fat. Other doors
drip with human blood. It is the night of Samhain, Celtic lord of the dead. Perhaps in no other “Christianized”
celebration does Satan so blatantly honor himself and memorialize his war dead.
The writer J. Garnier suggests that celebrations of suffering and
death can be traced back to the ancient destruction of all of his human
followers, as well as the hybrid sons of fallen angels, at the time of the
Flood. Cultures the world over have festivals for the dead, “held by all on or
about the very day on which, according to the Mosaic account, the Deluge took
place, viz., the seventeenth day of the second month—the month nearly
corresponding with our November.”—The Worship of the Dead, by
J. Garnier.
The Druids were no exception.
On October 31, Samhain was said to release the spirits of the dead to
mingle with the living. Druids roamed the streets with lanterns, and on coming
to a house, they demanded money as an offering for Satan.
Halloween is a major satanic
ritual day. “It’s a religious holiday for the underworld, with satanists performing
sacrifices and witches quietly celebrating with prayer circles or meals for the
dead,” according to a USA Today article. It quoted Washington witch
Bryan Jordan as saying, “[Christians] don’t realize it, but they’re celebrating
our holiday with us. . . . We like it.”
In an essay that he wrote for school on
why he doesn’t celebrate Halloween, 14 year old Michael stated: “Each
person has to answer for himself whether the origins of a custom matter. I
think that the origins do matter. For example, most people would get upset if
their neighbors got dressed up as Nazis. Why? Because of the origins of Nazi
uniforms and what they stand for—principles that most people find offensive. I
find the principles offensive that the devil, wicked spirits, and witches
represent, and I don’t want to be associated with them. It’s good to think
about the choices we make and our reasons for making them and to make choices
based on principle rather than on what is popular. That’s why I like this time
of year. I am proud to be different and to stand by what I believe in.’”
